VarsityTournament Results Varsity Girls’ Team: The Varsity Girls played agreat game in their first match against Hickory Christian. Their defense was outstanding, but ourshooting let us down. We fell behind14-6 in the first half only to come back and tie the game 17-17. The game went into overtime with HickoryChristian gaining a 20-17 lead. Niamh Sinclair scored to make it 20-19. We got the ball back with eight secondsto go. In the final seconds we had twoshots. The first missed and we put itback up. It hit the backboard, the rimand dropped out as the horn sounded giving Hickory Christian the victory. Concordia was led by Morgan Koch with nine points, KristinKaylor with six points, NiamhSinclair and Brittany Connoreach had two points. Encouragedby their strong play on Tuesday, the VarsityGirls came out totally pumped for their match against Varsity Boys’ Team: The Varsity Boys had mixedresults in their tournament play last week. The boys did not fare any better than the girls against HickoryChristian. We were behind 13 – 8 at thehalf only to rally back to tie the game 21-21 at the end of the thirdquarter. We were unable to maintain themomentum and ended up losing 29-23. Concordia was led by WilsonElliott with 11 points, Alec Hasswith 6 points, Sam Benfield with 4points, while Zach Koch and David Hofeldt each had 1 point. Shaking off the loss on Tuesday, the Varsity Boys came out in full force for their first game onSaturday against Community Christian. Concordia totally dominated the game offensively, even shutting outCommunity in the third quarter. Thefinal score was 32-14. We saw some outstanding scoring by Wilson Elliott with 16 points and Sam Benfield with 13 points. Also scoring for Concordia were JohnEvans and Alec Hass. Theboys’ second game against Sacred Heart was exciting. Both teams came out strong in the firstquarter, but a pair of three-point shots by Sacred Heart put us down by threeat the end of the quarter. In the secondquarter Concordia almost matched them point-for-point but came up shortincreasing Sacred Heart’s lead to four points at the end of the half. A determined Concordia team came for thesecond half, outscoring Sacred Heart in the third quarter and cutting theirlead to one point. Although continuingto play strong, Concordia was not able pull out the win and ended the game35-43. Scoring for Concordia were: JohnEvans, Perry Davis, Wilson Elliott, David Hofeldt and Alec Hass. High-scorer for the game with 17 points was Sam Benfield who was named to the All Tournament Team. The boys came in TENNIS There will be anopen practice for any 6-8th grade students who areinterested in trying out for Concordia’s TennisTeam on Wednesday, February 25 andFriday, February 27, from 3:30 to 5:00.
